Here Are The Best PH Uniforms During The First Week Of The Sea Games

When you’re repping the country in the region’s biggest sports stage, you’ve got to be sure that you look darn good.

Here’s a rundown of all the team and athlete uniforms from the Philippine side since the games kicked off last Monday in the polo fields of Calatagan. Naturally, red, white, and blue tones dominate, but the more exhibition-based sports, like gymnastics, wushu taoulu, dance sport, and ice skating, did their part to liven up the uniform roster.

Gymnastic’s golden boy Carlos Yulo wore a gold-trimmed tank top with a sampaguita motif. The Philippine flag runs down both his armpits, ending in striking red tights or, for his other events, shorts.

Water Polo

According to SportingNews‘ Jordan Heck, Speedos are worn in water polo by men because “it gives your opponents less material to grab.”

Kim Mangrobang Celebrates Winning Gold

Kim Mangrobang Celebrates Winning Gold

Kim Mangrobang in Sea GamesSUBIC BAY—Two Kims asserted yet again the country’s supremacy in women’s triathlon on Sunday by nabbing the gold and silver here in the 30th Southeast Asian Games. Fil-American model Kim Kilgroe crossed the finish line at 2:05:02, duplicating the Philippines’ 1-2 finish in Malaysia.

“Two weeks na ako dito,” she said. “Pinaghandaan ko ’yung weather, lagi kaming lumalabas ng coach ko ng 8 a.m. so naghanda kami para dito.”

This, however, did not prevent her from experiencing jitters before the race.

“Na-realize ko kahapon nu’ng 2005 nanonood lang ako kinakabahan na ako. What more kung ngayon tatayo sa harap ng mga Pilipino? Sobrang kinakabahan ako kagabi hindi ako nakatulog,” she said.

She said the pressure was stronger at home compared overseas since they had to deliver in front of the home crowd.

“’Yung sa Kuala Lumpur iba, kasi lahat ng Pilipino nandito na nag-e-expect ng first and second place panalo ang Filipino,” she said.

Mangrobang will again race on Monday in the relay at 3 p.m., hoping to snare another mint.
